who's been busy?

So, here's the deal. YOU couldn't keep up this schedule. The weekend of Sept. 16, I drove my mom to Kentucky. Pictures below. Then I got up Monday and flew to New Jack City where I attended high-level meetings with other folks that work for Disney. We were variously addressed by Bob Iger and Robin Roberts and Diane Sawyer and Charlie Gibson and those weather and news guys from Good Morning America but I don't have pictures of them. So let's get to the pix.

Anne and I went to the Museum of Natural History and saw a T. Rex skellilngton.

Here's a typical NY street scene.

Here's the statue in front of the Musuem.

Here's a dog park outside the Museum. Dogs in Ohio don't know how good they have it.

Here's a deer skellington from the Museum.

We ate at San Luigi on 75th and Amsterdam one day. I had that tomato red onion fresh mozzarella swabbed with olive oil. And stuffed mushrooms. Anne had some chicken pasta. She loves chicken.

Here's Anne sitting across from me at lunch.

Across the street was Citrus where we had eaten Wednesday night.

A brownstone porch on like 72nd St. Upper West Side. Yeah, I'd wanna live there, she says sarcasmically.

Here's an exterior view of the Museum.

So the weekend I took my mom to Kentucky we saw these vistas from the front yard of my cousin Sharon's house in Bledsoe, KY. We stopped in Hazard to call her and get better directions. Hazard. Dukes of Hazard. OMG.

My cousin Sharon parks herself on her front porch, of the house she and her husband Lonnie built 30 years ago. Their son's name is Lonnie Ray although Lonnie's REAL name is Tinsley. How many other people do you know named Tinsley? And then Lonnie Ray's 5-year-old son's name is Lonnie IV. I don't get it. Man, these people said things like 'thowed' as in 'I thowed that ball into the holler.'

This house up behind Sharon's is where her son Lonnie IV lives with his wife Lisa and Lonnie IV and his unborn sister.

So I have one week back in town (after my flight getting whacked in NY on Saturday and I have to stay over in an aiport hotel and fly out of a different aiport on Sunday and then Jenks and I have tickets to see Dave Alvin at the Ark that night, sheesh) and then I go to Put-in-Bay for the weekend. So here are some wimmen at a table in the party area.

Mixed up photos: View from the ferry when we left on Sunday.

Sal on the porch of the party house with some mens.

Sal and Melissa's stepmom Dee.

Sailboats seemed to be racing on the way home.

The Perry Monument from the ferry coming home.

Man it was windy up on the top deck of the Jet Express Sunday morning.

Here's the little house Sal and Terry and I stayed in. Across the 'street' from the party house.

Krista, Jeff's sister, and her boyfriend Logan who played hockey with my son in years gone by. Small world. And Krista's nephew Dylan who is Jeff and Melissa, our hosts, son.

Terry and Sal on the ferry. I'm telling you it was BREEZY.

Jeff had made a fish shaped cake for Dylan whose b-day is Oct. 2. Logan's was Oct. 1 and Terry Gonyer's was Sept. 30.

This fire got MASSIVE later and I hope Sal will send me some pix of it. OMG i drank a lot of beer.

Dylan at the table, amusing the wimmen with his firearm skills. As we practice our firewater skills.

Caspar the white one is Bill DeWitt's dog and the black one is Whitey's Curley. Oh man they were so cute playing with each other.

Judy, Trisha, DeWyre. There was always something cooking. Trisha took a taxi into town about 9 p.m. and the next morning at 7:30, another taxi dropped her off. Hmmmmmmmmmmm

On the ferry, the bridge went up.

And this boat came through.

The Boardwalk where we had delightful lobster bisque upon debarking from the ferry over.

gone a lot

See all those little red yin-yang symbols on this calendar? I will be gone those days. I am counting on Annie to feed my cats those days except Sept. 30 when we are both going to PIB and I believe those cats can just eat light for a couple of days. Just so you know. My next possible radio show is Oct. 7 but the BG football game that day is still TBA so I could be bumped. So pretty much, it's "See you in October." I miss you all already.

Here is the stage Friday night with no roof, it having blown off around 4 p.m.

Fortunately, it was a beautiful night.

Bill Kirchen played the main stage Friday night.

Rev. Horton Heat closed the show and we all went to Nate and Wally's to see Rod's Collision and although it was filled with people I know, all acting like drunken kindergartners, I apparently took no photos.

I went over to Howard's to see the Heartless Bastards who would have been really good with a better sound system.

A professional photographer took this photo of me and an ex-BGSU employee.

Nomo from Ann Arbor played Saturday before noon.

Then the Blue Suit Review played.

Here are some folks gathered round the Huntington Bank courtyard where Bob Manley is going to play with some locals. Bob is the brother of this man's American daughter-in-law.

I only took this picture because this woman whose butt is pictured met the guy she is with on a Fixx message board online and he flew from Australia to Minneapolis and then they drove to BG together to see the Fixx because they are giant Fixx fans.

swamp swamp swamp

Hey some news updates about this weekend.

One, remember Rod's Collision is at Nate and Wally's TONIGHT starting around 11. Also tonight is the Heartless Bastards at Howard's which I might actually pay the money to see. I hear the cover charge is "$10 at most" and I quote a Howard's employee. Also at Howard's is a guitar master, Tim Reynolds, late of the Dave Matthews Band, although I won't hold that against him. This is Sunday. Probably evening, but of course the club's website is way out of date.

And it's ME ON THE RADIO, not once, but twice this weekend as I do the 10-noon part of the Blues Breakfast on Saturday, with McKinley Smith phoning in the remotes from the festival. On Sunday, I'm doing the 4-6 pm show for Julie Haught. So from no show to 2 shows!

GNO was Wednesday at Donna's but I'm behind on picture posting. But I must tell you that there is no Halloween party at Connie and Doug's, which some of us had presumed. So we all have to turn out in our costumery at Gus and Annette's on Oct. 21.

Also, Nerak Roth Patterson, a blues guy from Yellow Springs, is at the Peacock Cafe in Toledo Friday Sept. 15. No internet info on this except that it says the date on Nerak's website and the cafe is located at Madison and 20th downtown.

Let them eat beans!

And so they did.

And some other stuff.

Already I pine for the quiet that will be October. Relatively speaking.

I just finished watching Angels in America, a 6-hour HBO special from some years ago. The main message I got was: The body is the garden of the soul. Say Hallelujah.

Labor Day

Well, it turns out I'm having a Labor Day get-together. Last night, at Fred and Sherry's, I discussed this with Connie Z as if it were a new idea. But today, Gus calls to ask if I'm still having a thing! So perhaps drunken birthday blathering resulted in invitations. Which is way cool. I'm making burgers and dogs. Got me a new tank o propane.

Deb H. divulged her pork recipe to me which is 1 pork tenderloin, covered in thyme and worcestershire sauce, accompanied by 3 onions and some garlic, in the crockpost, 5 hours, take out, pull apart, back in crockpot with BBQ sauce for 2-3 more hours. Mmmm. It was delish.

Today I watched "Team America!" OMG, if you have not seen this, do so. That Trey Parker is one sick man. And how they got those marionettes to have such great facial expressions is amazing.

I went garage sale-ing Sat. am with Miss Jenks and bought a wicker and wire rack for CDs which is great because you can look down on the edges of the CD cases like all racks should be.

And here's the lovely photo Miss Jenks got me for my birthday.

Here's Luci at her retirement party with a big smile and her new bling from Tiffany.

what's happenin' baby?

Cripe, only the second post this month and it'll be September on Friday. Last Friday, I went to Luci's retirement party. Saturday, I went to some garage sales and, uh, had people over for cards and drinking. Sunday I went to see my mom. Nuff bout that.

Monday, we tried to go to Casa Barron to see Kentucky Chrome but alas, the heavens opened so we ate at Mr. Beefy's (cannot recommend) and then we came to my house for libations and Connie and I went to the radio meeting and then to Beckett's where Gus is NOT any longer the Monday night tarbender.

Big Labor Day weekend coming up and not one plan except that one day, I don't want to get in a car at all. My propane tank ran out so I must refill for holiday grilling. Which I feel there must be some of. Although the Ernesto storm could come up and put a damper on our festivities. I should have a radio show this weekend. And then Sept. 16 and that's it for September.

Happy Birthday to Me

August, it's been busy. Friday, Aug. 4, Annie and I went to Powell and saw Tom's band, Good Guys, at a bar called the Lazy Chameleon.

Then that Saturday, we went to the Kling Rib-Off. Then I took a break the weekend of the 11-12-13.

We had GNO at Beckett's Aug. 2 instead of at Amy's because it was so hot. Then we had GNO part 2 at Connie D's Aug. 16 where us August birthday girls received our presents.

The weekend of Aug. 18-20, Amy and I went to the Madison, IN, Ribberfest where we saw:
Roy Rogers

That boy can play the guitar.

A scene from the river bank.

Roomful of Blues, we were not impressed.

They had these pigs.

The Jimmy Davis band from Madison was great.

Miranda Louise did a great version of Angel from Montgomery.

Here's a crowd shot.

More crowd.

The cowboy pig.

I had left my camera at Whitey's on Aug. 13. When I went to retrieve it in the bar, they had taken this pic.

The Blues Brothers pigs.

Betty LaVette.

The rainbow pig.

The Fabulous Thunderbirds were great.

Today it was my birthday. I went to Beckett's with Amy. Donna came in. It was Gus's last day at the bar. We played some pool. Then I went to Jan and Carol Bell's. I forced them into committing to something on Sept. 2. I told them I would cook.

This weekend I am having my mom up for Sat and Sun after going to Luci's retirement party on Friday night. Kentucky Chrome is at Casa Barron Aug. 28.
