OMG I'm exhausted

So last weekend Charles had the flu which so many of you have had. I can't even remember what else went on.

We had a delightful poker night on my new poker table with my 1,000 new poker chips that I bought off Craigslist. The guy lives in Bradner so for an extra $10 he delivered the stuff.

Then I worked on President's Day when there was yet another giant snow/ice storm and I had to go in at 6:30 A.M. And possibly I did some other stuff but it was so long ago I can't remember.

Spent Thursday and Friday out at the country home nursing Charles after his "minor" surgery. Slept on the couch. Saturday I bought a new guitar and amp and went to Ron's retirement soiree at 149 North and then played euchre out at the man shack.

Went to Jeffrey's Antiques Sunday and then had brunch at SamB's. Highly recommend. Then had Snap practice and then dinner out at the farm and then hit the sack, apparently so exhausted I slept right through the thunderstorms Sunday night.

Tonight I did Butts and Guts and signed up for more gym through May 7 and have had an evening on the phone with Miss Jenks whose cat is diabetic and now requires insulin shots and high priced cat food.

If I had more gumption, I'd post some pix but alas. Band of Heathens Thursday for which I made dinner reservations at Conor O'Neil's for the 11 that are going.

Cards at Kim n Jim's Saturday.

V Day

We went to Rockwell's in downtown Toledo for dinner at 5 and had to wrap it up quick at 7 to get to the show.

We got two appetizers: mushroom medley over puff pastry, purportedly with some cream sauce I couldn't see (mediocre) and duck confit pizza with carmelized onions and a sort of teriyaki sauce which was pretty good.

Then we got the Rockwell salad for 2, lettuce, blue cheese hunks, roasted red peppers, red onions, zucchini and artichoke hearts. They gave us separate dressing tureens and I bet there was a bottle of peppercorn ranch between the two of the. We got the bread with the salad.

Then we had another appetizer: the sashimi tuna/wonton/avocado stackers with wasabi sprouts. Pretty good but the tuna was wafer thin. Then we got coffee and the biggest damn slab of six or seven layer chocolate cake you've ever seen which we couldn't even eat half of between us.

They were having a V Day special of a 16 oz ribeye butterflied with taters and squash for $55 but we declined. Something made me burp a lot during the show, plus I was stuffed like a pig. Plus we had 2.5 glasses of wine each: first a Cabernet which was totally unremarkable and then some Nine Stones Shiraz, which had a little snap.

The show was Delfeayo Marsalis and band doing some Duke Ellington music while some guy from Treme came out and recited some Shakespeare occasionally. There were probably only 200 people in the Peristyle. We had bought the cheap seats on the side so after the intermission, we sat down on the main floor.

Fun time. I wore a skirt and heels and my new clanky necklace and my red Michael Kors coat.

A fine weekend

Friday night I went out to the country for dinner and drinking.

Saturday I cleaned my filthy house up then I made pulled pork and oven fries and cole slaw before Amy and I went to see Gnomeo and Juliet in 3D. Then we went to Doc's in Tontogany which was packed to see Joe Bob play.

Today I watched Modern Family and Mr. Sunshine in bed on the iPad drinking coffee. Then I made a bacon cheese onion omelet and Amy and I went to Frontierland (Fallen Timbers) and shopped. I got a pair of wacky pants, heavy knit, real slim leg. Hope I have some footwear to go with them. Then we went to Dillard's and tried on a bunch of clothes and I bought a sweater and yet another long sleeve black top and a heavy silver-ish necklace. Then I did a radio show from 4-6 of all love songs for V Day.

Kelly Wicks called to tell me Jim Suhler and Monkey Beat and Eli Paperboy Reed are booked for the Swamp. And the full lineup will be announced April 1.

Then I went to the country and had dinner with his parents. Which was lovely.

Now I need to assemble an outfit to go to that concert at the Peristyle tomorrow night.

Cat terrorism

Wailers at the Ark

Although photoshopped for brightness, still blurry:

The Wailers show wasn't as tiresome as too much zydeco like I thought it might be. They played til 9:40 and we thought they'd come back for an encore but they came back for another 45 minutes so we got home at midnight. But frankly, it's ONE Wailer and a bunch of new people. Like seeing the Allman Brothers: it's Gregg Allman and a bunch of utes.

I must say I was a little disappointed in some of Conor O'Neil's appetizers, which is all we had, 6 of them. I may have to correspond my feelings to them.

We got mussels (good), fried Brie (OK, not very creamy), artichoke dip (pretty good but both Chip and I feel the recipe has been changed), tater skins (OK), calamari (AWFUL) and the shrimp and salmon cakes which in my memory used to be these lightly griddled, barely holding together yummies but this time were like the heavy canned-salmon cakes we all remembered from our childhood. I was stuffed anyway so I guess I should shut up. LOL

Enough snow already

Yesterday, they were predicting 1"-3" of snow but it started snowing hard and then about, oh, 7 hours later we had about 8 inches of new snow. Which I shoveled continuously but alas when I came home this morning, the plow had put a ridge of packed snow at the bottom of my driveway so I had to shovel that out before jamming my car into the drive. Can't get it in the garage because the drive's too narrow with all that snow packed along the side and I'm afraid if I did get it in the garage, I would hit the house backing out.

Then I called Amy, who is deathly ill, and go over and shovel out the end of her driveway and some other stuff while she snowblowed some stuff. Then I went to Connie's and did the bottom of her driveway.

Then I'm lounging around with a book on the couch, and the courthouse clock bongs 12 and I realize I was supposed to be at Ginger's for band meeting. So I went there and we had brownies and coffee and she handed out some sheet music.

While I was there, Jessica called about the new B&B website so when I got home I called her back and alas, they don't like the new design. So now I'm working on a new new design. I only did this one page on spec.

Yesterday, I was a ball of fire upon arising, as I thought I was done with the B&B website which I had finished Friday night. I put a pork roast in the crockpot which was in for 8 hours on low and not done by the time I left for Chip's at 6. So I put it in the fridge and put it BACK in the crockpot today and now, 6 hours later on high, it's about done. I also made beef enchiladas which I had one of about an hour ago and they are OK. No great shakes. And I made cookies which I haven't done anything with. And I made apple dumplings with the Pioneer Woman recipe which calls for Mt. Dew and they are sinfully delicious. Highly recommend. Plus they are so easy: wrap a Pillsbury crescent roll around an apple quarter, pour on some butter/sugar syrup and the Mt. Dew and damn.

It's still an hour til the Super Bowl which I am only interested in for the end-of-quarter scores to see if I win any money in the office pool.

Plus this week there is a radio mtg. Monday night and we're going to see the Wailers Weds. night and Thursday Ekoostik Hookah is at Howard's and Friday should be poker and Saturday, JoeBob is at Doc's in Tontogany.

Guess I better dust off my guitar and tune it and see if I can learn Kansas City.

Eeeek

I just notice a giant flaw in my web design. I had WEDDINGS in twice as a navigation item but when I took that one out of one page, there was a big gap in the navigation buttons. I figured out what to do about it but now, with a little relaxment going on, I decide I better wait to fix it tomorrow.

Also Karen called me from Dallas. They are all cabin-feverish and apparently have been drinking for the better part of 4 days. Because they got 2 inches of ice Monday and then 5 inches of snow on top of that. But they're still out on their front porch with their chiminea or whatever that big Mexican fire pit is called, even thought it's 22 degrees. Where is that damn teletransportation device??

The big one

Or one to watch or whatever it was supposed to be. It was indeed messy and I could have gone to work as I'm allowed, being a media person, even in a level 3, but alas I could not make myself do it on Wednesday.

Monday night, we went to Ann Arbor and saw John Hiatt and Lyle Lovett, which was a swell time all around, although the food at the Grizzly Peak was unexceptional. The concert was great. Those 2 guys are amazing guitarists and vocalists and songwriters. The song that sticks with me is Hiatt's 'Have a Little Faith.'

It started snowing hard when we crossed the state line and by the time we got to Sal's where I had parked my car, the roads were drifting a lot. We plowed on home, me and Amy, only seeing one other car and it was in the ditch across from the Community Center, with its lights on. We didn't stop.

Tuesday, it sucked driving home and Wednesday, I just stayed here. Shoveled, which took forever and still my driveway is barely open enough to get my car into.

Last night, I did some heavy lifting on the B&B website and tonight, I will do some last minute tidying up and ftp it to a server so we can look at it and tweak it and make it real. I kept having these mental blocks about doing the photos and other things but I think it's about ready.

This weekend--not much. Which is good. Sunday is the Super Bowl which I will check at the end of each quarter to see if I won in the office pool. Have a Ginger and the Snaps meeting Sunday at noon.

Kim has announced cards at their house on March 5, just days before she turns the big 5-0.

Today, I tried to buy pants. Maybe some black jeans or some casual wear that's not jeans. Tried on 8 pairs. None good. For one reason or another. So I bought a sweater and a purple wool jacket on clearance and a spring dress that looks cute although I didn't try it on but I knew if I didn't buy now, they'd not have my size later. I have 60 days to return it. Then I stopped at Churchill's and got a pork roast and a jar of Keith's BBQ sauce and some chocolate bars and some peppadew peppers that I intend to stuff with cheese of some sort and milk. And 3 bottles of vino. Drinking some 2007 Domaine de Fontsainte.

I need to make more wine notes.

I was talking to Miss Jenks the other night and she was bemoaning that she has not learned Spanish or to play her guitar in her spare time, which she has plenty of. Oh, that we all would get on that stuff we keep meaning to do.

Listening to Big Head Todd's Rocksteady CD.
